  • Synopsis

In 1889 the newly elected School Board of the Island of Uist had to fill the post of head teacher in the school of Garrynamonie in the southern part of the island. Their choice fell upon Mr Frederick G. Rea a native of Birmingham. He was the first Englishman to be appointed to a head teachership in this Gaelic-speaking island and he held the position from 1890 to 1894 and again from 1903 to 1913.

These are his memoirs and this book first published in 1964 was prepared for publication and introduced by the Gaelic writer John Lorne Cambell.
