Inch Kenneth (Scottish Gaelic - Innis Choinnich) is a 55 hectare island lying a short distance off the coast of the Isle of Mull at the mouth of Loch Na Keal.
The island is said to take it's name from St. Kenneth(Cainnech of Aghaboe), a contemporary of St Columba making it one of the most important religious sites in Scotland.
Very little is known about this Poem - even the author is anonymous despite a 3 page preface where he or she provides the basis for the inspiration behind this romantic poem which was Dr Johnson's journey to the Hebrides and his encounter on Inch Kenneth with its only inhabitant Sir Allan Maclean and his two daughters.
Condition Notes
This extremely rare edition about which very little seems to be known has remained intact with just some splitting of the cover at the spine along with some rubbing of the cover boards. There is what appears to be an ink stain streaked along the edge of the front board. Inside the pages are bright and clean throughout with just some looseness of the binding. There is a name written in ink - Rebecca Howells and date 9th month 18th 1830.
