    Sir John Sinclair (1754-1835) was a Scottish writer, famous for his survey of Scottish life, the "Statistical Account of Scotland", published between 1791 and 1799. In this volume, Sinclair describes some of the words and phrases of the Scots language (which he calls a "dialect") and their derivations (e.g. from Latin, Belgic, Saxon etc). He also touches on language usage in London and other parts of England.

    This full morocco leather bound edition has a damaged front cover board which has split from the spine.

    The inside pages are in very good condition with just age-related tanning.

    This book would be enhanced with a new binding in order to continue its preservation.
