  • Additional Product Information

Publisher James M'Kie or James McKie(1816–1891) was one of the great collectors of Burnsiana which is now housed by East Ayrshire Council Arts and Museums Service.

James M'kie became well aware of the scarcity of the original works published during Burns' lifetime and felt that Burn's many admirers would welcome the opportunity to own exact reproductions of these orginal works. So between 1866 and 1886 he produced at least sixteen editions with variants, limiting each publication to 600 copies and all produced in the familair original bindings of blue boards & paper spines.  The publications were highly regarded with all the copies sold by subscription prior to printing.

This edition is a facsimile of the original Edinburgh edition from 1787(MDCCLXXXVII) containing the "Dedication to the Noblemen and Gentlemen of the Caledonian Hunt" and an engraved portrait of Burns by the artist John Beugo(1759 - 1841) after Alexander Naysmith(1758 - 1840). It was printed and published in 1869 and limited to 600 copies.
