The Ptarmigan - Scientific name: Lagopus mutus and from the partridge family - is only found on the higher mountains of Scotland. It is one of the few birds able to adept to its environment having a snow-white plumage in winter which moults with the melt to become a grey/brown colour.
Artist Information
Archibald Thorburn(Scottish1860-1935) is considered one of Britain's finest ornithological artists. Born In Lasswade(Midlothian) became a member of the Royal Academy and worked primarily with watercolour & gouache.
Frame Information
Originally framed by John Mathieson & Co., of Edinburgh, this work has been dismantled, checked and cleaned and then re-framed using the original frame and backing so conserving its originality. There is a new mount and the addition of non-reflective glass(Artglass Invisible AR 70™).
