Synopsis
The 4 Volumes present a picture of Scottish History from 55 B.c. to 1802, as seen by those who lived through it and made it and compiled from original texts.
The Complete set of four volumes was originally published in a tartan presentation box.
The volumes were dedicated to "The Saltire Society".
Volume I - From 55 B.C. (the first Roman Invasion) to 1513 (the Battle of Flodden) - Volume includes the original "Declaration of Arbroath" in 1320. 261pp
Volume II - From 1513 to 1625 - Includes Mary Queen of Scots and ends with James VI. 330pp.
Volume III - From 1625 to 1707 - Includes the Treay of the Union. 371pp
Volume IV - From 1707 to 1802 - Taking in the Jacobite Risings and thereafter Scotland as seen through foreign eyes (Johnson's tour of the Hebrides). 401pp
About the Author
Agnes Mure MacKenzie (1891–1955) was a Scottish historian and writer, born in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis
Educated at the University of Aberdeen she gained a first-class honours degree in English Literature in 1921.
Mackenzie's work focused on Scottish history and published: "Robert Bruce King of Scots (1934)", "The Scotland of Queen Mary and the Religious Wars (1936)" and "The Foundations of Scotland (1938)". but was equally interested in the future of Scotland writing "Scotland in Modern Times, 1720-1939 (1942)" and "The Arts and the Future of Scotland (1942)".
She had a significant role in The Saltire Society.
Condition Notes
Four very good volumes with original dustcovers with some fraying around the edges but still provide excellent authenticity.
