    In 1935 The Right Honourable Thomas Mackay Cooper was appointed Solicitor General for Scotland and later the same year he was appointed as Lord Advocate. He was interesting for his outspoken criticism on the future prospects of Scots law and what he considered to be the faults of the British machinery for the administration of justice.
