  • About the Author

    Douglas Eaglesham Dunn was born in 1942, He studied English literature at the University of Hull and completed a PhD at the University of St. Andrews.

     

    Dunn's first collection of poetry, "Terry Street," was published in 1969, and he has since published numerous collections, including "The Happier Life" (1972), "St. Kilda's Parliament" (1981), "Elegies" (1985), and "New Selected Poems 1964-2000" (2003).

     

    His work is known for its precise, unadorned style and its exploration of themes such as love, loss, and the passage of time.In addition to his poetry, Dunn has also written plays and edited several anthologies of Scottish poetry. He has received numerous honors and awards for his work, including the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize, the Whitbread Poetry Award, and the Cholmondeley Award. Dunn has also taught at several universities in the United Kingdom and the United States, including the University of St. Andrews, the University of Dundee, and the University of Strathclyde.

     

    He was awarded an OBE in 2003, the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry in 2013.

     

    Dunn describes himself as ‘a lyric poet distracted by social concerns that are not of my invention’.
