Synopsis
First published in 1949, The Chosen Course tackles a theme which has become increasingly more topical - the two-edged efferct of introducing new technological projects into an area like the Scottish Highlands.
Hector Ross returns from Burma after working as an Engineer for twenty years. His roots are Highland and he feels a storng desire to bring some benefits to his native glen. The Scheme to raise the level of Loch Luineag by constructing a hydro-electric dam seems ideally suited for his purpose and he is taken on for the project which is already underway. Soon there is evidence that not everyone is so enthusiastic about the scheme. A series of attempts to sabotage the project make Hector look more closely at the minister's son, Ken Macleod and then at his forth-right but undeniably attractive sister, Catriona.
