    The Royal Company of Archers is a ceremonial unit which functions as the Sovereign's 'Body Guard in Scotland'.

    It originally evolved out of a society for encouraging and exercising archery formed in 1676, as a private archery club

    By seniority, the officers comprise one Captain-General, four Captains, four Lieutenants, four Ensigns and twelve Brigadiers.

    Members of the Royal Company of Archers wear a distinctive uniform. It features a dark green tunic with black facings, dark green trousers with black and crimson stripe, and a Balmoral bonnet with the Royal Company's badge and an eagle feather.

    Book has 6 colour plates. 6 black and white illustrations.

  • Condition Notes

    Overall good condition.  The cover boards are slightly rubbed and scuffed and there is fraying to head and foot of spine. Corners scuffed and bumped.  The boards have bevelled edges and clean gilt title and gilt vignettes( Coat of Arms of the Company on the front and Royal Coat of Arms on the rear) present on front and rear board. The inside pages are generally clean and bright with only light dust soiling and some usual age-related tanning. All plates present with tissue paper protection in place.
