    The Lady of the Lake was first published in 1810 and was set in the Trossachs. Composed of six cantos, each of which concerns the action of a single day.

    The poem has three main plots: the contest among three men, Roderick Dhu, James Fitz-James, and Malcolm Graeme, to win the love of Ellen Douglas; the feud and reconciliation of King James V of Scotland and James Douglas; and a war between the Lowland Scots (led by James V) and the Highland clans (led by Roderick Dhu of Clan Alpine). 

  • Condition Notes

    This is a fine & handsome volume in excellent condition.

    The leather quarter binding with gilt titles is clean and crisp. There is some slight splitting along the spine & board joins but the binding remains strong. Some rub on the leather corners.The marbled papered boards are clean with with some small tears mostly along the bottom edges board.

    The inside pages are bright and clean with natural tanning throughout. There is some light spotting throughout.

    There is an attractive book plate on front endpaper.
