    The author Mary Monica Hope (Scott 1852-1920) was the grand-daughter of Sir Walter Scott and inherited Abbotsford House - the home of Sir Walter Scott - on the death of her father in 1873.

    In this book as well as writing about the famous estate of Abbotsford she also covers some aspects of Scottish history - the Barbour manuscript regarding the legend of the Saints, the life of St Margaret, St Magnus of the Orkneys, the Scots Guards in France, The Lennox, a sister in law of Mary Queen of Scots, Scottish Catholics under Mary and James, Mary Stuart, The Chevalier de Feuquerolles, Winifred, Countess of Nithsdale and The Ruthwell Cross.

    A handsome book with cloth cover boards with gilt embellishments and titles. Printed on fine paper with just some light foxing on the title pages. There is previous owner name and date in ink on the inside end-paper.
