  • Additional Product Information

Robert Adam (1728-1792) was a Scottish architect, interior designer, and furniture designer who is considered one of the most important figures of the neoclassical movement. He was born in Kirkcaldy, Scotland and was the second son of William Adam, a prominent Scottish architect.

Robert Adam was educated in Edinburgh and Rome, where he was exposed to the classical architecture of ancient Greece and Rome. He went on to develop his own distinctive style, which blended classical motifs with the baroque style popular at the time.

Adam's first major commission was the decoration of Spencer House in London, which established his reputation as a leading interior designer. He went on to design several other notable buildings, including the Adelphi Terraces in London, the Dumfries House in Scotland, and the Register House in Edinburgh.

In addition to his architectural work, Adam was also known for his furniture designs. He created furniture that was elegant, graceful, and in keeping with the neoclassical style. He also wrote several books on architecture and design, including "The Works in Architecture of Robert and James Adam".

Robert Adam's work had a profound impact on the field of architecture and design, and his ideas continue to influence architects and designers today. He is considered one of the most important figures of the neoclassical movement and his legacy continues to be celebrated in Scotland and beyond.
