About the Author
T. M. Devine is the preeminent historian of modern Scotland.
Thomas Martin Devine was born in 1948, in Motherwell. He obtained his BA in History from the University of Strathclyde and his PhD in History from the University of Cambridge. He has been a professor of history at the University of Edinburgh since 1998.
